Nicknamed "La cité Toscane", "Le joyaux de la Garrigue" or "La perle du Gard", Uzès has a serene, elegant atmosphere, the legacy of a prestigious past. Situated in the Gard Provençal region, overlooking hills, valleys, rivers and olive groves, the town is worthy of the landscape. Seen from above, from its tiled roofs and three feudal towers, little or nothing has changed since that glorious 17th century.
Uzès has kept its southern soul, and has been entirely restored and pedestrianized. It was classified as a Town of Art and History in 2008, and boasts 40 listed buildings. You'll be glad to leave city life behind and spend a few quiet days here, taking in the charm of the region that so inspired André Gide and Jean Racine.
Stroll down cobbled streets, swim in the Gardon river, enjoy the local heritage and gastronomy, visit hilltop villages, go to the beach or do almost nothing - it's up to you.
To help you prepare for your stay, we've put together a must-see guide that you'll receive with your booking. Over a hundred addresses and places to discover throughout the region.
